MMA

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques,
from a mixture of martial arts styles.
It is made up of three ranges, stand-up, clinch and ground.

Stand-up

In the stand-up, or striking, range a fighter can hit his opponent with punches, kicks, knees and elbows
to the head, body or legs. Most of the techniques in this range come from Boxing or Muay Thai Kick-Boxing.
And who doesn't like punching someone in the face, right?
As Colm and John are showing below, you can close your eyes and flail wildly if you can't be bothered with any of that technique stuff.

Clinch

The Clinch is a combination of wrestling and striking, with fighters able to throw or hit their opponents
Here the throws come from Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling as well as Judo,
and the strikes are mostly Muay Thai and 'dirty boxing'.
For an example of how to do this in a non-technical, but hilarious way check out Frye vs Takayama

Ground

On the ground you can attempt to strike you opponent or catch then in a submission hold,
like an arm-lock or choke and force them to tap out.
The ground work in MMA is largely Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with some wrestling and Judo thrown in for good measure.
